Faroe’s iconic collection of local art.
For a group of islands as beautiful as the Faroe archipelago, there’s no wonder that it would have an equally inspiring collection of local artwork to display. That’s what the Listasavn Føroya, also known as the National Gallery of Faroe Islands, is committed to. It’s housed in a charming series of low-lying houses made of black tarred wood, that look like medieval cottages from a fairy tale. The gallery’s mission is to promote and preserve Faroese visual art, as a part of the Islands’ cultural inheritance. Step into the large entrance hall, and you will be greeted with a beautiful view of the park, along with the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee before or after your tour. As you wander the 1000 square metres of airy space lit by large glass-panelled windows, your soul will undoubtedly be uplifted by the soaring works of art placed elegantly on the walls. Past seasonal exhibitions have revolved around singular artists, whose works make use of symbolism and visual metaphors to create a vivid portrait of life in the Faroe Islands. No matter when you visit or what you see, you’ll definitely leave with a more refreshed spirit.
