An oasis of green.
Found at a plateau on a steep embankment overlooking the meandering Vltava River, Letná Park is a 25-hectare green space offering various delights. With woody plants and verdant shrubbery amongst other things, the park is a favourite with both locals and visitors. Here, you can exercise to your heart's content, be it enjoying the wind rushing past as you cycle, or in-line skating. There's even playing grounds for pétanque! Children can run wild at the playground, or accompany you to check out the fascinating metronome at the base of the park, ticking almost hypnotically.
Here’s an interesting fact: the largest monument dedicated to Stalin in the entire world once stood where the metronome is now. It was, however, blown up in 1962, and the remnants of the monument hold up the metronome. The park also hides within it some significant patches of history, for it was where about 75,000 gathered to protest against Communism. Michael Jackson lovers might know that this is where the superstar kicked off his HIStory World Tour in 1996. When you start feeling hungry, head to the Hanavasky Pavilion, a delightful work of architecture that functions as a restaurant, and offers spectacular views.
