Leningrad Zoo

A zoo with an interesting past.

Founded in 1865, the popular Leningrad Zoo is located in St Petersburg’s Alexander Park. Originally founded by two animal lovers - Sofia and Julius Gerhardt in 1865, the zoo is the second largest in Russia. Home to more than 2,000 animals out of about 400 different species from all over the world, this zoo is a must-see while in St Petersburg. Kids will be delighted to take part in a range of interesting activities such as the animal feeding sessions and the numerous educational programmes. A ride on a donkey, horse or pony is also available at the ‘Riding Circle’ area. Or perhaps you should hop by the ‘Children’s Zoo’, where kids can get up close and personal with various farm animals such as chickens, cows and goats. Another highlight is the ‘Rural Domestic Life’ section, which simulates what life was like for animals in a village back in the 19th century. This zoo is truly educational!
