Lenin Park

Nature, relaxation and fun all in one place.

South of Havana, you can find the city’s largest recreational area. Lenin Park, otherwise known as “Parque Lenin”, was constructed between 1969 and 1972, as requested by one of the Fidel Castro’s long-time associates. With aged trees surrounding an artificial lake and plenty of greenery in sight, this is the perfect place for cycling or going for a jog to relieve yourself of stress.

The Lenin monument in the park is hard to miss, sculpted by Soviet realist sculptor, Lev Kerbel. The accompanying plaque quotes Fidel Castro’s words of admiration and praise of Lenin, defining him as a “man of action” and “constant and incessant revolutionary practice”. If you visit on a Sunday, you can catch an exhibition held at the model airplane field left of the entrance, or visit the aquarium. Get your heart pumping with a visit to the amusement park, or visit the equestrian center to enjoy a horseback ride. You can enjoy a view of the steam train or stop by for a bite at one of the many restaurants when your stomach starts growling. With so much to do, you might find yourself unable to leave.

Tips Before You Go
Some facilities are not well tended to, so a visit to the amusement park at Lenin Park is recommended to enjoy your day. Note that the horses at the equestrian center belong to private owners, so try and bargain as there is no fixed price.
