Leeum Samsung Museum of Art

Two-part museum covering traditional and contemporary Korean art.

Divided into three buildings, the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art showcases both modern and traditional art. While most of its exhibits are based on the collection of the museum’s founder, various paintings, sculptures and installations by Korean and international artists can also be found here. Contemporary art lovers can find plenty of artworks to look forward to in Museum 2, where the works of esteemed artists like Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987), Nam June Paik (1932 – 2006) and Jeff Koons (born 1955) can be found. In Museum 1, traditional paintings, calligraphy, metalworks and much, much more can be found, spanning across four levels. Museum 3 is dedicated to special exhibitions that is held every now and then. The name of the museum is derived from the founder’s surname, Lee, and the abbreviated word for museum, “um”. While its name may be rather odd, this museum is a treasure trove of artwork.
