Lassen Peak

The ‘peak’ attraction in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Lassen Peak, otherwise more commonly known as Mount Lassen, is an active volcano in the Cascade Range of the Western United States. A series of eruptions from 1914 to 1917 left the volcano barren of trees and vegetation, but it still remains a popular spot for visitors to explore. To admire the 3187-metres-tall volcano in its entirety, go to Lake Helen to get the best views (and photo opportunities).

Hiking up Lassen Peak is also possible, but do be prepared for the strenuous climb! This is made especially challenging due to the lack of vegetation, which prevents climbers from having a solid foothold on the steep and rocky trail. The volcano can be climbed all-year round, but the summer months would be a much more comfortable hike as compared to the winter months. Regardless, the view at the top is absolutely breathtaking, and reaching the summit is a rewarding experience in itself. So what’re you waiting for? Lace up those boots and tell yourself that there “ain’t no mountain high enough”.

Tips Before You Go
Tighten up your laces to minimise the chances of getting a sprained ankle, which is extremely possible when you consider the challenging hike up Lassen Peak. Bring along a jacket too, as well as some water and a towel to wipe your sweat away. The jacket will come in handy at the peak, which is completely barren, and thus, the strong winds will prove to be more than just a little chilly.
