Lamma Island

Hong Kong’s frenetic pace gives way to a laidback vibe amidst Lamma Island’s lush green hills, sleepy fishing villages and peaceful beaches.

Easily accessed from Hong Kong via 30-minute ferry ride, Lamma Island has become an increasingly popular antidote to the shopping and dining frenzy most travellers indulge in. A family-friendly paved trail connects the car-free island’s two main settlements Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan, and the walk will give you a glimpse into rural Hong Kong life, as well as scenic hilltop views of emerald hills and turquoise waters. Beach lovers, meanwhile, should check out the Lo So Shing and Shek Pan Wan beaches, both quieter than the popular Hung Shing Yeh beach. End off your day with a seafood feast at one of the many waterfront seafood restaurants in Sok Kwu Wan - the food is usually decent if unspectacular.
