La Madeleine

Originally dedicated to Napoleon’s army, La Madeleine was consecrated as a church in 1842.

A Roman Catholic church located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, the La Madeleine was constructed in dedication to Saint Mary Magdalene. From outside, the La Madeleine does not look like your typical church – there are no crosses or bell towers, and it resembles that of an ancient Greek temple. The interior of the church is ornately decorated with artworks heavily inspired by the Romans and the Renaissance periods.

One notable structure is the statue of St Mary Magdalene being lifted by angels, located at the top of the high altar. Masses are regularly conducted at this church, so you can consider sitting in and don't forget to appreciate the wonderful music. A bonus for classical music lovers, the church contains an organ dating back to 1845, and classical music concerts are held there from time to time.
