Moscow, Russia
Kuskovo

A visit to this former country estate on the outskirts of Moscow is a throwback to a time where the Russian nobility ruled the land.

Built in the mid-18th century by an aristocratic family, this summer estate stands out for being remarkably well preserved, as well as its pan-European architectural influences.

While the palace, with its salmon-like pink and white wooden structure was built in the neoclassical style that was popular at the time, the estate also contains a Dutch House – literally a typical late 17th century Dutch townhouse, not unlike what you’d find along an Amsterdam canal. There is also an Italian House, built in the style of an Italian villa and an authentic Swiss cottage located on the grounds of the Kuskovo. You’ll even find a spectacular collection of eighteenth-century European and Russian paintings hanging in the houses here.

Visitors must pay individual fees to enter each building and compound in the estate, but overall, the price is reasonable compared to entry for other palaces, and overall, it is a worthy option when considering day trips from Moscow. Also located on the estate grounds is the Russian State Museum of Ceramics, while the park is a popular recreation spot for Muscovites.
