Translated to “King’s garden”, Kungsträdgården is indeed fit for royalty with its sprawling, scenic views and is an oasis of peace and quiet amidst the bustling city.
Kungsträdgården is a lively urban park conveniently located at the heart of the Stockholm. It is no surprise that the garden attracts throngs of people as it is surrounded by a plethora of restaurants, galleries, cafes and nightclubs. The Royal Swedish Opera, Stockholm Synagogue and Ivar Kreugar’s Matchstick Palace are but a few of the prominent buildings lining the park. The expansive department stores PK-huset and Nordiska Kompaniet are also opposite the North side of the park. It is distinctly separated into four sections, Square of Charles XII, Molin’s Fountain, Square of Charles XIII and Fountain of Wolodarski, each offering different spaces with a unique charm of its own.
Kungsträdgården has something to offer in all seasons of the year. In Spring and Summer, the gardens come to life with gorgeous flowers and greenery, including the well-known cherry blossoms that flourish in the Springtime, shrouding the park with the pretty pink flowers. The balmy weather also allows the park to play host to outdoor events such as concerts, and is perfect for enjoying an al-fresco meal at one of the cafes. Come Winter, the park retains its appeal as an outdoor ice-skating rink with fairy lights, creating a magical and festive atmosphere. After an invigorating ice-skating session, cosy up with a steamy cup of one of Sweden’s signature beverages, glog or lingonberry juice, or opt for the familiar comfort of tasty hot chocolate, offered at stalls near the rink.
