Inspired by bourgeois society, Kungsparken is the ideal of luxury in nature.
Located in the centre of the city Malmö, Kungsparken is a lovely public park that calls to mind scenes from the Sound of Music, with its lovely and idyllic atmosphere. Sheltered by dense foliage above, it is the perfect oasis to get out of the humdrum of the city and experience a slower pace of life for awhile. Designed by the Danish landscape architect Ove Høegh Hansen, the Kungsparken’s design was highly influenced by the designs of bourgeois English gardens, a reason why the Kungsparken features many large shrubs and exotic trees. Indeed, the park is home to approximately 130 old tree species from 3 different continents!
It is the oldest park in the city and as such its attractions have a lovely weathered feel to them: in the heart of the park is a vintage cast-iron fountain that spits water into the shallow pool surrounding it. There is also a lovely marble balcony from which you have a bird’s eye view of the fountain and the woodlands around. The space used to house a fortress, but after it lost military significance in the 19th century, it was decided that a park should be planted there.
