Kremlin Armoury

A visit to this trove of treasures amassed by the tsars is like wandering through the world’s most fabulous attic – if your attic contained Faberge eggs.

Part of the Grand Kremlin Palace complex, the Armoury comprises artifacts from the tsars’ treasuries and the Patriarch’s vestry, many of them centuries old. You’ll find a mind-boggling array of jewels, fine porcelain, gold and silverware, ceremonial arms, thrones, crowns, robes and gowns and even a room full of horse carriages made for various members of the imperial household.

Not to be missed are the various trinkets made for the tsars by the famed House of Faberge, notably the stunning jewelled eggs containing surprises like exquisitely decorated miniature trains. Only 50 these jeweled eggs were made for the royal household as Easter gifts, and of the 43 that have survived, 10 are in the Armoury. With a collection of more than 4,000 items of applied of Russia, European and Eastern countries that date back all the way to the fourth-century, the impressive cultural and historical value of the exhibitions has allowed the Kremlin Armoury to become a renowned museum worldwide.

The comprehensive audio guide makes a visit to the museum richly entertaining and you’ll leave awed by the lavish lifestyle of the Russian imperial elite in their heyday.
