Koreatown

A culturally rich melting pot.

We’ve all heard of Chinatown in San Francisco, but now that the world’s been hit by Korean fever, it’s time to get a little more acquainted with their way of life. Did you know that there is actually a Koreatown in Los Angeles, and that it is quickly becoming one of the most happening neighbourhoods in the city? It started out as an ethnic enclave for the native Koreans who emigrated in large numbers to the USA in the 1960s, and found housing in the mid-Wiltshire area. They began to open businesses in the historic Art Deco buildings located in the area, whose terra cotta façades are a work of art in their own right. Today, the neighbourhood’s ethnic allegiances have evolved in a more complex manner, as Korean businesses build stronger ties with the local Latino community. The food you can find here has also exploded into an eclectic mix; from goat biryani in Little Bangladesh (that’s right, there’s now a ‘Little Bangladesh’ within Koreatown itself), to upscale drinks at the Line Hotel, to sizzling strips of meat at Korean barbeque restaurants. An added bonus: they also have the best karaoke in the whole city. Don’t miss out on one of the most exciting places in the city right now!
