Korean War Veterans Memorial

Reminding you that “freedom is not free”.

Gone but not forgotten, the veterans who bravely fought in the 1950s Korean War are honoured here at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. You can observe depictions of troops using various points of entry on the walls, and 19 stainless steel statues whose reflection on the nearby presents the illusion of 38 soldiers, symbolic of the 38th parallel that segregates North Korea from South Korea.

To garner a greater understanding on the tragic loss of the Korean War, the Pool of Remembrance has information on the lives lost in the line of duty. With the profound phrase “Freedom is not Free” sprawled across the granite wall, this memorial really makes you ponder and appreciate the sacrifices of our ancestors.

Tips Before You Go
Head down to the memorial at nightfall where the individual statues are lit up by their own little lights, making them look majestic yet slightly eerie.
