Paju, South Korea
Korean Demilitarized Zone

A zone of peace between two ex-warring nations.

Separating North and South Korea since the end of the Korean War, the Korean Demilitarized Zone is an area of truce between the 2 nations. Because of this mutual understanding of peace in this region, it has become one of the best areas of natural growth. All sorts of fascinating animals, such as lynxes and black bears, call this habitat home. Even rare bird species like the white-naped and red-crowned cranes can be found here.

While fights are rare, both sides of the zone are heavily fortified, filled with an intimidating number of military personnel as a safety measure. When visiting, make sure you bring your passport, and be careful when taking pictures as you are not allowed to take pictures everywhere. A region where tension and a deep sense of nationalism reigns, be extra cautious as you approach this area.
