Understand what it means to live without boundaries by paying a visit to the Kon-Tiki Museum in Oslo, Norway. Renowned explorer Thor Heyerdahl made an expedition in 1947, crossing the Pacific Ocean on a raft called the Kon-Tiki. That is exactly what the museum is based upon, with the original Kon-Tiki raft proudly displayed within its walls. In fact, he managed to bag an Oscar for the best documentary in 1951 with the pioneering journey that he filmed. The best part is you can actually see this award-winning documentary screened in the museum’s cinema. Not only can you learn about this exciting expedition, but also about some of the other journeys he has undertaken, such as his excavations on the Galapagos Islands and Easter Island. Get into the mind of a fearless explorer by visiting the Kon-Tiki Museum.

Tips Before You Go
You can reach the museum by taking bus 30 from the City Hall all year round, or in the summer (April-October), you can even take the ferry to the Bygdøy Peninsula. If you intend to visit the Norwegian Maritime Museum, the Fram Museum, or both, buy the combination ticket for these museums plus the Kon-Tiki Museum, as you will get a discounted rate. Make sure you set enough time if you plan to go museum hopping though, because the interactive displays at the Kon-Tiki Museum will definitely keep you too preoccupied to want to do anything else.
