Kommos Beach

An extensive beachfront with frothy white waves.

Located near an archaeological site, here lies the rock that was supposedly thrown at Odysseus by the enraged Cyclops to stop the former’s escape from the latter’s cave. This great black rock, locally known as Volakas, has a charming heart-shaped silhouette moulded lovingly by the raucous waves. During the nesting season, you may even spot the protected loggerhead turtles laying eggs in the sand. In the twilight hours, you might also witness baby loggerhead turtles make an endearing traipse into the sea.

Enjoy delicious food at the nearby tavern as you marvel at the most stunning sunset view of the sun dipping between the valley of a distant islet. Gorgeous scenery, peaceful surroundings, with a dash of mythology and ecology, what is there to not love about Kommos Beach?

Tips Before You Go
Kommos Beach can get rather windy in the summer. If you are looking to enjoy a relaxing swim by the beach, do consider visiting in September or October when the waves are calmer.
