Kobe Maritime Museum (神戸海洋博物館)

Anchor here for a greater understanding of Kobe’s maritime activities.

Because Kobe is often synonymous with its premium grade of beef, it is sometimes easy to overlook the city’s formidable international port. Kobe Maritime Museum, opened since 1987, will take you through the history of the port, and also give you a glimpse into the future of ships and sailing. As you enter, you will receive a warm welcome by a model of the warship, Rodney, which fired the signal during the inauguration of Kobe’s port in 1868. Walk through the exhibition rooms to learn about all things ship-related, from the construction of ships to navigating the seas. For an audio-visual experience, enter into the Maritime Theatre, which provides an excellent learning experience of the port’s history. Make your way to Kobe Maritime Museum, and immerse yourself - not literally, of course - in Kobe’s port.
