Kobe Earthquake Memorial Museum (阪神・淡路大震災記念人と防災未来センター)

A tribute to the many who lost their lives and homes during the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake.

Founded in 2002, Kobe Earthquake Memorial Museum honours those who tragically lost their lives and homes because of the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake in 1995. It was constructed with the aim of spreading awareness about earthquakes and how to prepare for such events. At this museum, you will see for yourself the devastation caused by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake through a short video clip aired in the 1:17 Theater. Visitors can listen to the stories of survivors via video clips, and learn how to manage the aftermath of disaster by participating in several workshops and games offered in the museum. Head down to the Earthquake Memorial Museum, to pay your respects and learn that it is always better to be prepared for life’s uncertainties.
