A unique perspective of the northern islands.
Arguably the most popular mountain hike on the Faroe Islands, this doable trek is an easy day out for the whole family to get the blood pumping and stimulate the mind with awe inspiring views of Klaksvik town and the neighbouring islands. Guiding Cairns lead the way up a well trodden path, and once you reach the summit, you’ll be swept away not only by the blustering wind but also the magnificent views of Kunoy, Kalsoy and Eysturoy from 413m above the earth. Point the mounted telescope at the top westward westward for views of Leirvík, Gøtunes and Mjóvanes. You can also spot Fólkaháskúlin, a highschool founded in 1889 which produced the talented writer of the national anthem of the islands, Símun av Skarði. A diverse range of birds species flock to the mountain to breed, including the Oystercatcher, Arctic Skua, Snipe, Golden Plover, Whimbrel, and the Black-Backed Gull, so look out for their distinctive features.
When the cold weather descends in the winter months, and snow blankets the mountain in thick layers of pure white powder, people immediately pack up their ski gear and head straight over, it being one of the few places that gives one the opportunity to have a good run on the slopes.
