Chic meets traditional and urban meets nature in the unparallelled architecture of the KKL.
Just a few hundred metres from Old Chapel Bridge, this strikingly dark ultra-modern building contrasts sharply with the backdrop of Lake Lucerne and stands out unapologetically from the assembly of classic swiss-style houses in the vicinity. However, it makes up for it by melding with the surrounding environment in its design, allowing the natural lake water to flow around it. Its trademark flat, somewhat imposing roof extends far over the water, appearing to defy gravity, and infinitely reflecting the mountains and sky gleaming off the surface. Hosting some 500 national and international events each year, from gastronomy to technology to art and history, the KKL Lucerne truly embraces all facets of culture. It has made a reputation for itself due to its remarkable architecture, incorporating materials with varying degrees of transparency and shades to create a sense of cohesion between the different events that are running simultaneously.
The concert hall is another feat of construction. The carefully selected, adaptable wooden structures, walls and ceiling come together to achieve acoustic perfection for each unique performance - to the point where even the air circulation system has been tailored such that absolute silence is maintained to experience only the purest form of music.
