Kirchner Cultural Centre (Centro Cultural Kirchner)

The largest cultural centre in Latin America.

The Kirchner Cultural Centre (Centro Cultural Kirchner) is a former central post office modelled after New York City’s main post office, and represents a brilliant example of French second empire architecture with its beautifully embellished, pristine white exterior façade. As one of the city’s most historic buildings (it was designated a National Historic Monument in 1997), the Kirchner Cultural Centre was officially opened in 2015, and was so named in honour of the later former president, President Néstor Kirchner.

Boasting a massive space of nearly an entire city block and of nine stories in height, the centre is an architectural masterpiece that serves as the cultural hub of Buenos Aires today, dedicated to art, music, theatre, and dance. The centre is home to a grand 540-capacity chamber hall, six auditoriums, and spacious rooms for art and history galleries, as well as conferences and exhibitions. Additionally, the Cultural Centre features two rooftop terraces that provide spectacular views over the vibrant city of Buenos Aires. Undoubtedly, the highlight is the visually stunning Ballena Azul (or blue whale), a massive, three-storey, 1750-capacity concert hall with amazing acoustics comparable to other top concert hall venues around the world. Well worth a visit, the Kirchner Cultural Centre is one of the grandest buildings in Buenos Aires and is an ideal destination for the whole family.
