A 2 hour uphill climb with a worthy reward at the top.

As you make your way up Dragon’s back ridge, the only sounds that will fill your eardrumbs are the twill of calling birds, chirping crickets, buzzing insects and of course - the sound of your own plodding feet and laboured breathing! Along the way stop to read the informative signs explaining the lush tropical greenery that is all around you. Lookout for the starkly contrasting red-orange tree about 500 metres from the peak. You’ll know you’re almost there when you start to climb the questionably stable bamboo steps. Most people take a somewhat lengthy 2 hours to reach the summit, but once there, the magnificent, bird’s eye view of the valley that stretches out below is truly to die for.

Squint your eyes and peer out at popular sites: Ao Nang, Krabi town, Railay beach, Koh Yao Yai, Noi, and if you’re lucky, even the Hong Islands. The Andaman sea with its fabulous limestone karsts have never looked better than when you just completed an exhausting hike to see it. Rest assured that although you might need some serious hydrating and phad thai to make up for the calories burned on this climb, nothing could be more satisfying.

Tips Before You Go
Head off early because latecomers will be charged a fine if they stay beyond the park’s closing time of 3-4 pm. It is also an added advantage to beat the crowds and the heat!
