Kekaha Kai Beach Park

Get all the benefits with 3 beaches rolled into one at this coastal park.

This park on the north Kona coast consists of three beaches; Maniniʻowali Bay, Puʻu Aliʻi Bay, and Mahaiʻula Bay. Hike the famous 4,5 mile Ala Kahakai Trail to reach Manini’owali Bay, but don’t forget to make a detour halfway to climb to the peak of Pu’u Ku’ili, a 342 foot high cone of cinder where you can get panoramic views of the coast. Once you’ve reached your destination, throw off your clothes and cool off in the glittering seas and have a picnic to recharge.

Mahai’ula Bay’s characteristic sandy dunes are the best for sunbathing and snorkelling, where you should keep your eyes peeled for the Hawaiian Monk Seals and whales that hang out in the area. The trail that leads here passes through a jet black lava field, telling of the volcanic activity Hawaii is famous for. Palm trees swaying in the wind and the calm ocean ideal for swimming means that those looking for a leisurely time should make a beeline to this mellow beach.

This bay is another one to add to the long list of paradise beaches here on Hawaii, and is a real competitor in the race to be the best!

Tips Before You Go
Take care not to swim when it’s high surf as the tides can get quite strong. There’s no drinking water or food available so be sure to pack your own. It’s also important to wear footwear in the water because submerged sharp lava rock pieces have been known to cut people’s feet.
