Nikko, Japan
Kegon Falls (華厳の滝)

Be enveloped by the grandeur of one of the best waterfalls in Japan.

After viewing this spectacle of cascading water, it would be unsurprising to hear that it has been ranked as one of Japan’s top three waterfalls. The Kegon Falls located in Nikko is the only exit for the waters of Lake Chuzenji. Approximately 100 metres high, you can observe the lovely blue water cascade from jagged cliffs - truly a sight to behold. Visitors can choose to observe the waterfall from a free observation point that is easily accessible by foot, or pay a fee and take the elevator down to the bottom of the falls. Autumn is a great time to visit as the surrounding trees change colour, displaying vibrant hues of orange and red. The waterfall is no less spectacular in the winter when most of the water freezes over, changing the landscape into something a little more mystical and grand. Bring along a picnic basket, and be prepared for a memorable experience at Kegon Falls.
