Kavringen Lighthouse

Light up your trip to Oslo here.

Located in the inner part of the Oslofjord inlet is the Kavringen Lighthouse, a lighthouse that has been functioning since 1892 and is still working till today. The 13m tall tower is perched upon the Kavringen, a rock shaped just like a whale, although it might take you a bit of squinting and imagination to see it that way. Made from wood, it emits light up to a distance of 12m, and you can see the light coloured in either red, green, or white, depending on what direction it is shining in. Most of the tower is painted white, with a single red stripe in the middle, with there being a lantern above the tower, which is further crowned by a spire. Experience a genuine lighthouse in Oslo that originated from over a century ago when you visit the Kavringen Lighthouse.

Tips Before You Go
Note that the area is only accessible by boat, so you might want to pack along some medication if you think you’ll have motion sickness. You should also pack along some sun block and wear a hat too, especially if you’re travelling in the summer. Not all boats will have shelter and you wouldn’t want to end up looking like a lobster so soon now would you?
