KattenKabinet (The Cat Cabinet)

Cat lovers will love this museum showcasing all sorts of cat-related artworks and memorabilia.

This lovely museum is devoted entirely to cats and was founded in 1990 by William Meijer to commemorate the passing of his beloved tomcat John Pierpont Morgan, so named after the American banker J. P. Morgan. De KattenKabinet, also known as The Cat Cabinet, proudly displays several works of art ranging from sculptures to paintings and drawings of (in my personal opinion) a truly underappreciated common household animal – the cat. The exhibits are presented in a serious and professional manner, yet visitors cannot help but smile at the adorableness of these fluffy feline creatures whilst viewing the various works of art.

Interestingly, the house De KattenKabinet is located within the museum itself and was built for a man by the name of William van Loon in 1667. The house has been richly refurbished over the years and has even hosted famous figures such as the mayor of Amsterdam Jan Calkoen and American president John Adams. Today, the museum is located on the lower floors of De KattenKabinet, whilst the current owner resides on the upper floors of the house. Five gorgeous, exquisite cats also live on the museum premises, lovers of everything cat-related should definitely not miss this unique museum whilst in Amsterdam!
