Kattanakken

Kattanakken will challenge you to your very core but what awaits you is something you would never have imagined. Like they say, if there is no pain, there is no gain!

Kattanakken is a peculiar name. In English, it means cat’s neck. We think that whoever named this mountain must have had a great sense of sarcasm, because it sounds like someone’s telling you that you can never make it to the top. But guess what? You can! Even though Kattanakken’s rugged terrain does test your physical and mental strength, many people have made it through and lived to tell the tale of what they saw from its top ridge. You certainly do not need 9 lives to be able to scale this mountain - 1 is more than enough!

The hiking trail follows an old trade route which connects Oldedalen and Jostedalen and follows a mesmerizing 700-metre ridge up to the Jostedalsbreen glacier. Once at the top, the scenery is unparalleled regardless of where you look from. With views of the romantic Oldedalen valley, the Briksdalsbreen glacier and the Volefossen waterfall from the summit of Kattanakken, every ounce of exhaustion will vanish into thin air and you’ll be left standing with your arms wide open and feeling one with nature.
