Scenic walks, historic discoveries or a good old picnic – this national park has something for everyone.

Visit Kamay Botany Bay National Park for a historic discovery, scenic views and even whale watching from Cape Solander during the migration season. At the entrance to the Kurnell Peninsula portion of this protected national park, you will be met with several memorials that commemorate Australia’s history. Divided into two main scenic areas, the La Perouse Area located at the Northern headland of the park is rather near Sydney's city centre, and offers an an array of snorkelling spots where one could even go scuba diving. Head to the museum to delve deeper into Aboriginal history as well as to find out more about the area’s history and culture.


The Kumell area at the Southern edge of the park is home to some of New South Wales’ greatest Natural Heritage sites, where an array of self-guided nature trails are also available for you to choose from. A botanical haven, the Banks-Solander track is a relatively popular amongst families for a short, easy walk and the opportunity to marvel at the lush greenery that surrounds you. The Burrawang Walk covers several of the Park’s significant historical sites, with Captain Cook’s Landing Place being a noteworthy visit. This historical site was once home to Captain James Cook and his Endeavour crew for a periods of eight days in the 1770s, and now marks a significant part of Australian history.


Also, be sure to venture on the coastal walk, admire the majestic views that will unfold before you, as well as to stop by at the various memorials throughout the park. Don’t forget to make a photo stop at the many lookout points and unwind with a picnic at Commemoration Flat.

Tips Before You Go
When at the Kumell area, be sure to check out the lovely vantage point - Cape Solander to catch a great view of the migratory whales. In addition, the Yena Picnic Area at La Perouse Point offers spectacular views over the entrance of Botany Bay.
