Kamari Beach

A beach which features remains from an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon!

The Kamari Beach is situated in Santorini, Greece and on it is a coastal village with a cosy population of a mere 1800. The name Kamari comes from a small arch that protrudes at the south sector of the beach and is what remains from an ancient sanctuary established in Poseidon’s name.

The beach is covered in black pebbles and is the longest part of the island it sits on. It extends from the northeast to southwest from Monolithos to the feet of the Mesa vouno mountain that is about 400m high, claiming the title of Santorini’s second highest peak. The village used to depend mostly on agriculture and fishery as its main economic sources, but today, it boasts of an established tourist industry offering a wide diversity of food stalls, night clubs, water sport facilities and accommodation options!
