Fact or fiction – you be the judge.
Bringing Shakespeare to life in a rather macabre manner is Juliet’s Tomb in Verona, Italy. Within the monastery of San Francesco al Corso, you will find the supposed final resting place of Juliet, buried in a red sarcophagus. Made from red Verona marble, the tomb lies in a vaulted room inside a dark crypt of this small monastery, and is believed to be the venue where she infamously drank the poison, taking her own life in the 13th century.
This museum is also covered with wonderfully artistic frescoes, giving you better insight into medieval art. Venture into the Guarienti room where weddings are often held, a romantic setting apt for the occasion. Decide the authenticity of this attraction for yourself by visiting Juliet’s Tomb, a key stop on Verona’s Shakespearean Guided Tour.
