Havana, Cuba
Johnson Drug Store (Drogeria Johnson)

Step back into Havana’s Golden Age at Johnson Drug Store.

Tucked away inconspicuously in a shop on the corner of Obispo and Aguiar Streets is Johnson Drug Store, a pharmacy more that has served the residents of Havana for more than a hundred years. Though still in operation as a pharmacy, it is now a living museum as well, offering visitors a glimpse into Cuba’s colonial past.

You’ll fall in love with the old-world grandeur and charm of Johnson Drug Store, which brings Havana’s Golden Age back to life. Polished wood counters and cabinets, filled with pristine porcelain apothecary jars, gleam in the light. The ceiling is painted a beautiful baby blue laced with curls of gold, reminiscent of the exuberant Rococo style, and adorned with delicate, floral chandeliers.

Apart from the furnishings, relics of the past litter the drug store. On the counter sits a large book encased in glass and filled with lines of neat writing – an old recipe book. You’ll also get to see a vintage microscope, and just by the stairs, an antique safe.
