Jiuxiang Caves

A geological wonder.

Home to more than 100 unique karst caves, the Jiuxiang caves features a complicated, intricately linked cluster of varied and distinctive cave formations, combining rivers, waterfalls, and even natural rock bridges. These au natural geological wonders intrigue and fascinate, and comprise 5 major scenic areas: the Jinhun Gorge, the Yincui Gorge, the Bat Cave, the Wolong (or Lying Dragon) Cave, and the Lion Hall.


Several of these gorgeous formations have been traced back to the Palaeolithic Age, whilst others have been found to have fascinating Yi ancestor inscriptions that are believed to have been carved during the Qing and Hang Dynasty. Geology lovers and nature enthusiasts will fall in love with Jiuxiang Caves, home to several natural wonders, such as the largest and most magnificent underground canyon in China (Jinhun Gorge), a stunning stalactite forest (the Bat Cave), as well as a magnificent underground hall with a massive lion-like stalactite (Lion Hall), touted as one of the largest underground halls in the world!

Tips Before You Go
The Jiuxiang Caves can be visited throughout the year, however the best time to visit the attraction would be during the summer season.
Visitors are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes for the visit.
Generally, a boat ride through the valley, lots of walking, and a chairlift ride to return to the entrance of the caves can be expected from a visit to the Jiuxiang Caves.
A visit to the Jiuxiang Caves can be combined with nearby attractions, such as the Stone Forest, Xishan Forest Park, and Yuantong Temple.
