Jingci Temple (淨慈寺)

A sprawling complex with distinctly charming bright yellow and red interfaces.

Located at the foot of Huiri Peak, Jingci Temple is a charming complex that holds prestige as the second most renowned temple in Hangzhou. Here, you can explore the scenic temple grounds and the various monuments scattered throughout, or partake in Buddhist rituals such as lighting incense sticks without the crush of tourist crowds. Here lies one of the Ten Scenes of West Lake: an enormous bronze bell, coated in faded jade green, which produces a mellifluous ring every evening. Inscribed with the 68000-character Lotus Sutra, this impressive bell can be rung with your own two hands. Even if you do not visit in the evening, you can still encounter the powerful striking sound that induces a moment of tranquillity within you. This is an experience that words alone cannot convey. So what are you waiting for? Come visit the Jinci Temple today.

Tips Before You Go
You can expect to do a lot of walking and climbing over here, since there are no elevators. The elderly might not be comfortable with climbing all the way up the tallest temple, which requires climbing up around 20 flights of steps. But fret not, because there are a lot more temples to explore!
