An astonishing learning journey awaits at Jeju Haenyeo Museum, which was established to pay tribute and show appreciation to the wonderful Haenyeo divers. Haenyeo, translated to “women of the sea” in Korean, refers to the Jejudo female divers whose occupation is to gather various fishes and seaweeds underwater. Enter the “Haenyeo Diver’s Life” exhibition in halls one and two, which presents to you the simple lifestyle they lead through replicas of a traditional Haenyeo’s home as well as the diving outfits and equipment they use such goggles and fishing spheres. To learn more about the rich culture of the fishing industry, hall three is the place to go, with the wide display of traditional fishing equipment. Jeju Haenyeo Museum provides visitors with an eye-opening experience to witness the strength and dedication these women divers have brought to the industry.
