Jardin de Monforte

Guarded by albino lions of Columnar stone, the Secret Garden of Valencia.

Was it merely a trick of the mind or did that porcelain white cherub extend its hand in invitation? You peer closer, but it seems the cherub has returned to its original pose head tilted away from the cast iron gate found just beyond the four statues frozen still before. Behind the gates appears wild hedges and lush greenery, almost like a veil barely covering what lies beyond. This is the ‘Pabello de Recro‘, reads the sign and trusting your heart you take the first step within.

The maze immediately branches into 2. Following one, you enter a space with a burbling fountain as the center of attraction. Ringing it are lifelike figures of goddesses with delicate circlets ringing their head and dressed in flowing togas. You’ve found for yourself the neoclassical geometric garden, backed by the sunny yellow of an empty French rococo mansion. Taking the other bend, you reach a tunnel formed out of hanging vines and purple blossoms, igniting the imagination as the gardens of the Romantic area are wont to do. Each junction within this floral maze hides a different work of art chiseled out of stone. A secret garden created at the heart of a historic and bustling city, this is a space dedicated purely to relaxing and enjoying nature.

Tips Before You Go
Covering an area of 12,000sqm, this is a rather impressive public garden that is freely accessed by all. This landscaping has been changed little since the year 1849 when it was bought over from the Baron of Llauri and redesigned. Since then, it has served as an alcove of serenity within the city for everyone. If you happen to have a free evening and would like to turn down the intensity of adventuring by a notch, then consider a stroll through the Jardin de Monforte.
