Jagalchi Market (부산 자갈치시장)

Korea’s biggest seafood market.

If your life motto is “Live to eat”, not “Eat to live”, and you don’t shy away from casual dining, then the Jagalchi Market will have you grinning from ear to ear. Located in Busan, this is Korea’s largest seafood market, selling produce so fresh that you can eat the live fish right there in the market. Snapper, Flounder, Halibut – you name it and it is served here, sashimi style.

Aside from the usual catch of fishes, you can indulge in an Instagrammable snack - raw octopus (or Sannakji)! Made out of the tentacles of a baby octopus, they continue squirming when they’re served as they are actually still alive! Be sure to take a video for keepsake of this interesting yet truly iconic dish of Korea before you dip the squirming little things into soy sauce and chili. If raw fish is not your cup of tea, don’t worry, there are other types of restaurants available, so make sure you come to the Jagalchi Market ravenous!

Tips Before You Go
As most of the vendors sell their produce on the first floor, upon choosing your catch, head up to the restaurants on the second floor and wolf down your “catch” of the day!
For those enjoying the Sannakji, you are strongly encouraged to learn how to eat this dish safely before doing so! Often, you can look at the locals around you for an example or even ask the friendly staff for some tips.
