Isla Incahuasi

Island oasis.

Rugged and desolate, Isla Incahuasi is situated within the heart of the infamous Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world. Wildly beautiful and striking amidst the pristine white sea of hexagonal salt tiles, the giant cacti covered hilly outcrop provides visitors with spectacular, breath-taking views of the surrounding natural landscape – a truly amazing wonder to behold.

As the highest point of the Uyuni salt flat, the Isla Incahuasi is a must for all who visit the flats. It sits atop the remains of an ancient volcano, once submerged in the giant prehistoric lake that dominated the area 40,000 years ago, and today stands as an impressive rocky formation of basalt and fragile remains of corals and seashells. The island also used to be a resting place for the indigenous Inca community along the trade route to Chile and beyond.
