Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

A carrier laid to rest.

Situated in Manhattan, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum is a maritime and military museum that boasts an impressive collection of vehicles including a submarine, a Concorde plane, and even the Space Shuttle Enterprise. It was opened in 1982 after the USS Intrepid, a World War II aircraft carrier, was saved from being scrapped and instead became the foundation of the museum, also giving it its name. The ship was rather unlucky in battle, being hit by Kamikaze planes on four separate occasions and even being torpedoed once. It hence spent a lot of time in the docks for repairs, so seeing this majestic ship docked in the museum should be somewhat reminiscent of its time in battle.
