Liverpool, England
International Slavery Museum

This one of-a-kind museum turns what could been a regular history lesson on slavery into a powerful experience you won’t forget.

If you think slavery is dead, think again - the International Slavery Museum will show you in stark, evocative terms slavery’s brutal past, and the bloody footprint it left on the world, with its repercussions still very much felt today. Using multi-media displays, visitors learn about slavery through the eyes of a slaver, shown in the form of a slave ship’s log and diary. Detailed exhibits of actual shackles, chains and instruments used to punish rebellious slaves will make your blood run cold. Located in Liverpool's Albert Dock - in the centre of a World Heritage site - it is just yards away from the dry docks that served 18th century slave trading ships.
