Manchester, England
Imperial War Museum North

Immerse yourself in the history of war and conflict – and ponder over where all this has gotten mankind – in a stunning Daniel Libeskind-designed museum.

Clad in gleaming aluminum, this imposing museum, sitting on the banks of a shipping canal, makes its presence felt even before you enter. Its architecture has a weightier role than looking good in pictures though - the museum’s spaces, such as the vast, curved floor in one section, is aimed at unsettling and disorienting visitors, to powerfully evoke the human impact of war. Moving personal testimonies, displays of tanks, jets and weapons, and digital technology are used to give visitors an insight into the meaning and impact of war since World War I. You will not be bored.
