Hyde Park, London

London’s version of Central Park.

Hyde Park is a worthy rival to New York's Central Park, and just like its American counterpart, it is located right smack in the middle of London, right next to Marble Arch station. The park is a wonderful place for a relaxing stroll before you embark on a shopping spree along the shops that line Oxford Circus. Founded in the 16th century by King Henry VIII, Hyde Park is the largest of the Royal Parks, comprising of about 140 hectares of land. It was later opened to the public in 1637, playing host to many exhibitions and demonstrations. But besides that, it also played host to numerous duels. A total of 63 lives were lost here as a result of these duels, so tread carefully at night lest you anger a wandering spirit. The park has also hosted several musical concerts by legendary bands such as Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and Queen, although this was back in the day when these bands were part of the zeitgeist. In the meantime, just enjoy a casual stroll around here. Who knows, you might get swept up into one of the many events that take place here on a regular basis. That would be the best way to truly immerse yourself in the local culture.

Tips Before You Go
The Speaker\'s Corner here sees many skilled orators speak their minds and articulate their views. This makes for an engaging visit to Hyde Park as you listen to them speak, however, you can only see them on weekends. There tends to be little to no speakers at all on weekdays, probably due to school and work. Visit on a weekend instead and be enthralled by the experience, especially since not every part of the world has such a thing like this.
