Did you know that there are only a few museums in the world dedicated to whales and whales alone? One of them is in Iceland. Located in the country’s old settlement which is known as Húsavik, the Húsavik Whale Museum showcases plenty of information regarding the aquatic mammals, as well as the skeletons of whales that used to wander in Skjálfandi Bay. There is just so much to learn here about the whales and their habits, that even those individuals not particularly interested in whales will find their curiosities piqued. Furthermore, you will also get to learn more about their history in Iceland and efforts to conserve them. After all, whales are majestic creatures and it would be a shame if we did not do our part to ensure that they do not go extinct. We assure you that this will be an enlightening visit.

Take along your camera and a notebook to note down anything that catches your eye. There is even free coffee available in the lounge, making this a good place to just unwind and learn more about whales. In fact, Húsavik is extremely popular for whale watching, so a visit here would be a good precursor before you get to see live whales in their natural habitat.
