A comprehensive history of Hungarian paintings.

Artists, revel in the five centuries of Hungarian art on display, depicting its evolution and nuances. Housed in many wings of the Buda Castle, it is a work of art in itself. The breathtaking panorama from the windows is bound to leave you speechless. The former throne room has on display late-Gothic collections of altarpieces, and works based on historical themes like the Baptism of Vajk and the Battle of Szigetvár are found within the museum.


In fact, the range of visual arts you can feast on Medieval and Renaissance stonework, Gothic wood sculptures amongst the more well-known 19th century paintings which tell the tale of the country’s turbulent history from the years of the Turkish occupation to that of the Austrian occupation. There are even over 3100 medals and 5000 prints, and artefacts dating from the 10th century to present day, all in chronological order. Tips Before You Go
Do note that the Dome may be closed during bad weather, and that the museum is closed on Mondays (except for certain days when there are special temporary exhibitions).
