Artists, the House of the Black Madonna calls to you, with its stunning Cubic architectural style. Built between 1911 and 1912, the house gets its namesake from the Black Madonna sculpture that was at the corner of the original Baroque building located here. Explore the unique phenomenon that is Czech Cubism and its short-lived expression through architecture. With its largely Cubist façade and staircase balustrade, the house was criticized by conservationists who feared that it would not fit in with the surrounding historical buildings. With some non-Cubist elements meant to help the building blend in with those around it, the House of the Black Madonna was a huge success.

Your trip to the museum will take you through the second to fourth floors, with both permanent and temporary exhibitions, the latter dedicated to Czech Cubism. When you step into the delightful café, it is definitely deserving of the awe, as the only remaining Cubist café in the world! It was reconstructed based on old photographs and sketches, which are all that is left of the original. Don’t pass up on this delightful museum, especially if you’re craving to learn more about Czech Cubism.
