The Ospedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents) designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, is a fine example of early Italian Renaissance architecture. Evidence of its original function as an orphanage can be seen in the reliefs of babies designed by Andrea della Robbia on the blue terracotta roundels.
