Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens

A haven of verdant greenery and rippling water.

“Aloha and welcome” to the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens, that which spans an impressive distance of 400 acres in Oahu, Hawaii. It was initially designed and built for flood protection, and it is an impressive rainforest garden. It features species of plants from great tropical regions around the world, especially those from Hawaii itself, along with others such as plants from India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Polynesia. Nature lovers will find this abundance of green space a real delight, along with the clear lake that reflects the lush green of the plants all around it.

Visitors of all ages will have a whale of a time here, whether they’re traveling the walking trails or peering into the picturesque lake. Photographers, get your cameras ready to capture the majestic Kualoa Mountain Rage with its distinctly beveled grooves, rising up proudly in the distance. You can even catch sight of ducks waddling along the lake’s edge, or ambitious fishermen (and women) extending their bamboo poles over the shoreline. As you stroll along the park, you will surely catch the drifting scent of plumeria trees in bloom, and explore the vast variety of plant species found in major tropical regions. You can even find a botanical library here, or if you intend to get more intimate with nature, haul your camping gear and stay overnight at the campgrounds!
