Hong Kong Global Geopark

See the geological wonders of Hong Kong in glorious display at the UNESCO Global Geopark.

Spanning an extraordinary 150km2 of land across parts of the Eastern and Northeastern New Territories, the Hong Kong Global Geopark became listed as part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in 2011. Each geological site has its own unique formations, which are masterpieces carved by the wondrous works of nature through time. See the stunning formation of hexagonal volcanic rocks that are almost parallel to each other on High Island. Admire the beautiful structures of maroon-coloured rocks at Double Haven, and be intrigued by the puzzling formation of the ghostly fingers of the ‘Devil's Fist’, the oldest rock in Hong Kong found at Bluff Head.

Alternatively, venture out to Tung Ping Chau, the easternmost island of Hong Kong and see the fascinating shale which reminds one of a sponge cake. Take a relaxing stroll along the mighty cliffs and soak in the magnificent coastal scenery around the Ninepin Group. With each Island being so unique and beautiful in its own way - an escapade into the great outdoors of Hong Kong could be the ideal trip for you!
