Budapest, Hungary
Holocaust Memorial Center

In honor and memory of the Hungarian Jews killed in The Holocaust.

The Holocaust Memorial Center is largely focused on the Hungarian Jews who were killed in the Holocaust, in a building that is asymmetrical. This interesting architectural structure is meant to represent the “distorted and twisted time” of the Holocaust. It was opened on the 60th anniversary of the start of the Holocaust in Hungary, and explores the genocide of the Jewish and even Roma communities in Hungary.

Exhibits here display maps, photographs and graphic videos, and the sound only adds to the chilling ambience as you learn more about the horror that was the Holocaust. The thudding heartbeat, and relentless marching accompanies you as you read of those who were deported to the death camps. The renovated synagogue here is home to temporary exhibitions, and they are often interactive and ever-changing, providing a multitude of perspectives and insight. This is your chance to learn about the profound effects of the Holocaust, and the impact it made on the generations to come.
