Step back in time to experience how life was like one century ago in Hokkaido.
The Historical Village of Hokkaido is an open-air museum in Sapporo. A village which is made to re-enact life in the Meiji and Taisho Periods (1868 to 1926), this place is a haven for those who are nostalgic about the past. Showcasing 52 well-preserved buildings which are divided into four themed sections: a town, a fishing village, a farm village and a mountain village, many of the houses are a unique combination of Western and Japanese architectural styles.
Watch how straw craftwork pieces are created and see the fascinating hand-operated platen press. Visit in winter where the entire village is coated with fluffy white snow. Hop on a horse-drawn sled or try bamboo skiing; make a snowman or have a snowball fight! It will certainly be a memorable experience.
